Finding A Lost iPhone Or Other Apple Product

So you’ve thought about buying an iPhone for some time now and finally made the decision to purchase it with no regrets and not look back. Unfortunately, when you did actually look back and forgot where you were going, you misplaced the new phone. Before you crawl in the fetal position and cry in the middle of the street, there are a few steps in place for finding a lost Apple device. The main thing you need to know is that you have to be proactive before you lose the device and not after the fact.

Find My iPhone : Hopefully A Lifesaver 

The good thing about Apple devices is that they have a built in GPS locator system within them. Well, bad for when an ex is stalking your every movement but great for when you accidentally lose your iPhone or iPad. There is also an application called Find My iPhone that will help you find your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch when they go missing.

The first thing you’ll need to do before losing your Apple device is to register with the free iCloud service at www.icloud.com. Now pick up your iPhone or iPad and go into settings. Pick the iCloud button and turn on the ‘find my iphone‘ app. Your Apple device will double check that you’re sure you want to allow them to access your information in which case you should swipe ‘Allow.’

What To Do When Your Phone Is Lost

Now the next step definitely isn’t required and you should try and avoid it at all costs but…lose your phone. Nobody intends to but it happens from time to time…to time. If you’ve checked the obvious spots – in the wash machine, at the bottom of the toilet, etc. – than it’s time to put Find My iPhone into action. Log into your iCloud account and click on the ‘Find My iPhone’ application. A map will pop up and hopefully the location of you iPod will be pushpinned with a general location.

 

Maybe this will jog something in your memory and you’ll discover your lost Apple device in the backyard playhouse where you slept after not making it home from the pubs.

What To Do If Your Lost Apple Device Doesn’t Show Up Immediately 

If unfortunately your lost Apple device doesn’t appear on the iCloud map right away, there are a few other options to try and get your stuff back.

Play Sound helps when you’ve pinpointed the location of your lost Apple device yet you still can’t find it, whether it’s buried beneath pillows or in your dog’s small intestine. Play Sound from iCloud will let out an audible beep so that you can find your iPhone or at least follow your dog next time you let him out on a bathroom break.

Notify When Found is an option you can use if the iPhone or iPod Touch doesn’t register on iCloud right away. A thief may have turned the iPhone off or the iPod Touch might not be on a WIFI connection. Instead of monitoring your computer like a stakeout, you’ll simply get a notification when your device is back online.

Lost Mode is a way to send a message to your phone in the hopes that if somebody finds it they’ll know how to get a hold of you. The iPhone loser can send their contact information or offer a reward and the message will appear on the face of the lost Apple device. You also have the option to lock your phone in Lost Mode to prevent somebody from picking up your phone and going through your pictures or texting your ex saying that you want them back.

If worse comes to worse, use Erase to delete all the valuable information from your lost Apple device. This will delete all the sensitive and private things you’ve stored on you iPhone or other gadget but can be restored if retrieved later.
